Minutes of Executive Committee meeting, December 12, 2004

Present: Nancy Kenny, Amanda Pullinger, Michael Boyd, Rupa Aniogi, Rob McWilliams, Joseph Lau, Diane Dunne, Deborah Shapiro

1. Financial Report (Lau)

Net account balance is approximately $1225. This balance does not reflect some events payments and membership dues that were made through Acteva.

2. Membership Renewals (Pullinger)

Some new members have joined the Association as a result of different types of events that have been held. The Association can track members’ interest in particular types of events via its database.

Online reminders will be sent before the end of the year and letters will be sent in January concerning renewals.

3. Recent Events (Pullinger, McWilliams, Aniogi)

a. Ashmolean event at Otto Naumann gallery- successful event, intentionally small number of attendees. Naumann donated a Jan Davidsz Delteem self-portrait to the Ashmolean, which portrait is seen in the background of a work in the Ashmolean’s collection.

b. MOMA event- approximately 50 people signed up. Some new members resulted.

c. Young Alumni-
Halloween event- approximately 15 people attended.

Thanksgiving dinner- hosted by Ollie Wilkens at his home.

4. Event Planning

a. Monty Python Spam-a-lot- joint event with Cambridge, organized by Erin Burns.

b. Irish Ambassador to the UN- to be co-hosted by NYU’s Irish House, date in January or February to be determined.

c. Oxford Cambridge New York Alumni Boat Race- to be held at the Peter J. Sharp Boathouse in Harlem on April 3, followed by boat race dinner.

d. Oxford-Cambridge choir series- Christ Church choir event to be held on April 11 and New College choir event to be held on April 12.

e. Oxford-Cambridge Real Tennis Demonstration- Spike Wilcox will play someone from Cambridge, followed by cocktails, on February 17.

f. Young Alumni- networking event to be held in Astoria on January 29 at $65 per person, with open bar, dinner, and music. The event will be open to alumni of other universities as 300 attendees are required.

g. Connecticut events- target of 4 events to be held in 2005 for the Connecticut chapter. McWilliams discussed establishing a core group of volunteers to drive the chapter.

h. Authors- Burns is working with OUP to host events with authors who have books coming out in February and March. Discussion was had about exploring the possibility of a literary joint event with the National Arts Club. Discussion also was had about holding a small poetry event.

i. Store events- due to the success of Thomas Pink event, discussion was had about holding another event at a store. Aniogi discussed possibility of event at Club Monaco.

j. Other alumni groups, e.g., Yale, have expressed interest in hosting events with the Association. Nancy Kenny will explore the possibility of the Association using the Princeton Club’s space for events.

6. Other Business

The FT has agreed to design a new color newsletter for the Association and has negotiated a great rate with a printer.

Follow up from Freshers Party- freshers have provided feedback on the event after having settled in at Oxford. Discussion was had about including an article on the event in the newsletter and sending the newsletter to the colleges.

An offer to join the Oxford Cambridge Club on London will be extended to members.
