Hugo Paez originally contacted me in search of a job. I convinced him that, even more than a job, he was looking for the right mentor.
Hugo is an immigrant from Ecuador, and is studying business at Baruch College. He has interned at JP Morgan Securities.

He writes:
I became really excited when you said you were going to try to get me a mentor through the Oxford Alumni Association. I checked out the website and became interested in the ways the association brings the alumni of Oxford together through many events. For example, the boat race sounded really cool (I’ve never done such thing).
I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and came to the United States when I was about nine years old. Without knowing a word of English I started the 4th grade in a bilingual class. I learned the language and by 6th grade I moved to a monolingual class. I've always liked computers, technology and science so this pushed me to attend Murry Bergtraum High School where I graduated as a computer science major student. Finance and business classes were taught there, for it was a business school and this lured me to the finance world. Through a school program, I did a two-year internship at JP Morgan, an investment bank, as a trading floor assistant.
I acquired many skills and met interesting people, all of them professionals and good at what they did. The experience of working at JP Morgan inspired me to attend a business college. I entered Baruch as a Finance and Investment major and I'm on my way to acquire my BBA. I’m also thinking of having a minor in mathematics (I love math). I haven’t lost the interest in technology and science which is why I subscribed to Popular Science and Scientific American magazines. As for now, my goal is to expand my knowledge, not only through school but also through the experience of a cool job. I like to meet people so I’m a member of two clubs in my school. I’m expecting to join more next semester. Outside of work or school, I’m planning to have a fun summer. So far I rode the tallest roller coaster at Six Flags and visited the beach. I expect to plan more events.
