Hilary Term 2001
President's Letter
Dear Fellow Oxonian,
As 2000 turns into 2001, on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Oxford
Alumni Association of New York (OAANY), I extend best wishes to all alumni
and their families for a happy, healthy, fulfilling and prosperous New Year.
May your computers be better behaved than Hal was in 2001!
OAANY's diverse program of events for Hilary Term 2001 starts in January
with a luncheon at which we will hear a business presentation from an expert
in the world oil markets. We look forward to seeing some of the new alumni
of Oxford's Said Business School at this event. In early February, we are
honored to have the Chancellor of the New York City School System, an Oxonian,
speak to us on his approach to tackling problems in the public school system.
An informal gathering for young alumni is scheduled for late February. March
will be a busy month for the OAANY. We will have an opportunity to hear former
CIA Director James Woolsey. Next, Hermione Lee, a Fellow of New College, will
discuss her new biography of Edith Wharton, which is particularly timely given
the recent release of Hollywood's version of The House of Mirth, starring
Gillian Anderson. Executive Committee member John Tepper Marlin is working
on a star lineup for this year's Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race Dinner, which
will conclude our Hilary Term program of events. Watch your e-mail for details.
Finally, I would like to thank members who have renewed their memberships
for 2001 and to remind anyone who has not yet renewed to please complete and
mail the form on the back of this newsletter as soon as possible. The OAANY
is completely self-funded and your dues are the only way we have to finance
our mailings, Web site maintenance and meeting costs. I look forward to meeting
members, old and new, at our upcoming events!
