Trinity Term 2001
President's Letter
Dear Fellow Oxonian,
Usually we find a slowing of pace in our events for Trinity Term, but not
this year! Through a combination of invitations to the Association to participate
in joint events and the active development of new ideas by your Events Committee,
we have a busy early summer planned for you. I hope you will find something
to your liking and we look forward, as usual, to welcoming old and new members.
At our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 27 we have the task of electing
new officers to serve the Association. The constitution that was adopted 18
months ago calls for a change in officers after two consecutive years in any
one position. This means that all the primary officer positions will change.
Whilst this seems a little disruptive, I believe it is essential to rejuvenate
our Association. We need new ideas and new people to keep us alert and responsive
to what meetings and events, you, our members, would like to see and participate
in. Please do try to come along to this important AGM to give us your opinions
and ideas for the future.
This will, therefore, be my last letter as president of the Oxford Alumni
Association of New York (OAANY). It has indeed been an honor and a pleasure
to work with all your committee members. I hope we have been able to provide
some interesting forums for you over the last two years. Our members' interests
are very diverse, but we all share the common bond of having completed part
of our education at Oxford, a university of which we can be justly proud.
How this historic institution moves forward in "the new age" is the subject
of our June 7 event. Who better than the President of Trinity College, The
Honourable Michael Beloff, to report to the alumni on that topic?

About Real Tennis
Real tennis, the precursor of lawn tennis, is an ancient game that has been
played in Europe since the 12th century. In France it was called Jeu de Paume.
While there are some similarities between lawn tennis and real tennis, the
most dramatic difference is that real tennis is played in an indoor court
where the ball can be played off the walls and may hit the floor a second
time after rebounding off a wall.
The real tennis court at Hampton Court is still in use, but relatively few
real tennis courts are maintained worldwide. New York is fortunate that two
real tennis courts are located here at The Racquet and Tennis Club of New
York City.

SECOND ANNUAL/FINAL?!
HOUSE PARTY IN THE BERKSHIRES
Otis, Massachusetts
3:30-7:30 P.M.
Saturday, June 16, 2001
Derek and Joan Benham invite you to a summer afternoon supper party at their
house in Otis, Massachusetts, in the Berkshires. Closer to midsummer's day
this year, we hope for warmer weather and certainly a longer evening than
last year's mid-August party.
Children are welcome, so bring all the family to sit out on the deck or
wander in the woods. Otis is no more than a three-hour drive from New York
City.
If you want to spend the entire weekend in the Berkshires, we suggest you
visit www.berkshireweb.com for lodging
suggestions in the area, ranging from bed & breakfast farms to old inns and
hotels. That weekend, Shakespeare & Company will be presenting Coriolanus
at the Founders' Theatre and The Mount in nearby Lenox will stage The Comedy
of Errors. Other places of interest in the area are the Norman Rockwell
Museum and Naumkeag in Stockbridge.
Please RSVP to Derek by June 4. He will provide full directions. There may
be opportunities to "carpool," so please let Derek know if you plan to make
a return trip in one day and are able to offer a ride to other Oxonians.
